Nurse CV Example for Staff and Registered Nurses
Hospitals shortlist nurses on two questions before anything else. Are you licensed, or eligible to be licensed, where the job is? And have you worked in the kind of unit they need to staff? Your CV should answer both in the top third of the page. Put your registration body, licence status and specialty where a nurse recruiter will see them first.
After that, write in terms of patients and units, not job descriptions. Bed numbers, patient ratios, the cases you handled, the equipment you used and the audits you took part in tell a head nurse how quickly you could work safely on their floor. Lines like 'provided holistic patient care' appear on almost every nursing CV and tell the reader nothing new.
This guide covers the clinical keywords that show up in nursing job ads, the licences employers check in the Gulf, the UK and Pakistan, and the mistakes that slow down shortlisting. Use the sample CV as a starting point and replace every detail with your own wards, hospitals and dates.

Best section order
- Licences and registration — Put these near the top. Recruiters filter on licence first, so give the body, status and expiry on one line each.
- Professional summary — State your specialty, years of practice and unit type in two or three lines.
- Clinical experience — List each hospital with its bed count, your unit and your usual patient load. Bullets should show cases, procedures and results.
- Education — Your nursing degree or diploma, the college and year. New graduates should add their internship and rotations.
- Certifications — BLS, ACLS, PALS and similar, each with an expiry date. Renew expired cards or leave them off.
- Skills — Clinical skills plus the EHR systems and equipment, such as infusion pumps or cardiac monitors, you've used.

Common nurse CV mistakes
- Hiding your licence at the bottom. Gulf and UK recruiters often stop reading if they can't quickly see whether you hold, or can get, the local licence.
- Writing 'all wards' or 'general nursing' instead of naming units. ICU, NICU, emergency, OT, dialysis and med-surg are different jobs to a hiring manager.
- Leaving off bed numbers and patient ratios. They show the pressure you're used to and help a reader compare hospitals they've never heard of.
- Listing expired BLS or ACLS cards. Always include the expiry month, and renew before you apply if the date is close.
- Including patient names or identifiable case details. Describe cases by type only; patient confidentiality applies to your CV too.

UAE
You need a licence from the regulator for the emirate you'll work in: DHA for Dubai, DOH for Abu Dhabi, or MOHAP for the other emirates. The process usually includes primary source verification through Dataflow and a Prometric exam, so say on your CV whether your licence is active, in process, or whether you've passed the exam.
CV format guide →Saudi Arabia
Nurses must register with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), which also uses Dataflow verification and a licensing exam. Your degree level and years of experience affect your professional classification, so give exact dates for every post.
CV format guide →UK
Internationally educated nurses need NMC registration, which involves an English test (IELTS or OET), a computer-based test and an OSCE. Leave out your photo and date of birth, and add your NMC PIN once you have it.

Nurse CV questions
Should I put my nursing licence number on my CV?
Give the licence type, issuing body and status, such as 'DHA licence, active, expires March 2027'. Adding the number helps employers verify you quickly. Leave the number off only if you're posting your CV publicly on a job board.
What should a new graduate nurse put on a CV?
Lead with your degree, your PNC or other registration, and your internship year. List each clinical rotation with the hospital, unit and length, plus what you did there, such as medication rounds or wound dressings under supervision. Getting BLS before you apply is worth it.
Do I need to pass Prometric before applying for nursing jobs in the Gulf?
Some employers will shortlist you first, but you can't start work until you're licensed. Having passed the exam, or having your Dataflow report under way, shortens the hiring time and makes you easier to hire. State clearly on your CV where you are in the process.
How long should a nurse CV be?
Two pages is normal for experienced nurses, since you need room for licences, certifications and several hospitals. New graduates should aim for one page. Don't attach certificate scans to the CV itself; send them separately when asked.
