Layout

A single column from top to bottom in a sans-serif font. Your name sits centred in bold capitals in your chosen colour, with the headline underneath and contact details on one centred line separated by vertical bars. Each section heading is in capitals with a thick coloured rule beneath it. Job titles are bold, and the company and dates share one line, pushed to the left and right edges.

How ATS software reads it

This is about as simple as a layout gets for a parser: one column, headings in the order you set, and standard section names such as Work Experience and Education. The PDF holds real, selectable text, so the system reads your words rather than a picture of them. The coloured name and rules carry no meaning to a parser, so changing the colour has no effect on how the content is read.

Best for

  • Corporate and business roles such as operations, HR or sales
  • Graduates applying to large employers through online portals
  • Anyone unsure which template to pick
  • Applications where you expect an older applicant tracking system

If you want your CV to look visibly different from the pile, or you need to fit a lot onto one page, a more distinctive or denser template will serve you better.

Tips for this template

  • Keep the headline short, around five to eight words, so it stays on one line under your centred name.
  • Because the contact line is centred and separated by bars, use a short website or LinkedIn address so the line does not wrap awkwardly.
  • Lead with whichever of Work Experience or Education is stronger; the template follows your section order exactly.
