Layout

Every section is a row on a grid: the heading sits in a narrow left column of about a quarter of the width, and the content runs in the wider right column. A thin grey rule separates each row. The header follows the same grid, with a short bar of your colour on the left and a very large, heavy black name on the right, the headline in your colour and contact details divided by slashes.

How ATS software reads it

Each heading comes immediately before its content in the text order, which helps. However, the heading and the first line of content sit side by side, so a parser that reads strictly line by line may join them, for example running a section name into a job title. That risk is higher with older systems. All text is real and selectable, the small colour bar is decorative, and the generous margins reduce space rather than readability.

Best for

  • Designers, architects and creative professionals
  • Product and UX roles where layout sense is part of the pitch
  • Applications sent directly to a person rather than through a portal
  • Candidates with a moderate amount of content who want lots of white space

If you are applying through high-volume online systems or need to squeeze in a lot of detail, choose a single-column template, because this one uses a quarter of the width for headings alone.

Tips for this template

  • Keep content concise; with a quarter of the page given to headings, long bullet points wrap more than in other templates.
  • Short custom section titles work best in the narrow left column, so rename Additional Information to something like Awards.
  • If you must apply through a large job portal, consider keeping a single-column version of the same CV for those applications.
