Modern Blocks template filled with a fictional example CV

Layout

The name and headline sit at the top left, with the name in your colour. Below them, a block framed by top and bottom rules splits into two parts: a lightly tinted left panel, about a third wide, with a Contact heading and contact details listed one per line, and a right panel holding your summary. Everything after that, from experience to skills, is a single column with coloured headings over a rule.

How ATS software reads it

Only the contact-and-summary block is two columns; the rest of the page is one column. In the text order, the contact panel comes before the summary, so a modern parser should read them in sequence. An older system reading straight across could mix contact lines with the first lines of your summary. Experience, education and skills are not affected. The tint is decorative and all text remains real and selectable.

Best for

  • Creative and marketing roles that still go through job portals
  • Candidates with a strong professional summary
  • Media, events and content roles
  • People who want a modern header without a full sidebar

If you have no summary, or your summary is very long, this template's contact-and-summary block will look unbalanced, so a simpler single-column template is better.

Tips for this template

  • Aim for a three to four line summary so it roughly matches the height of the contact panel beside it.
  • Keep contact details short; the left panel is narrow and long email or web addresses will wrap.
  • Because the summary is placed in the top block regardless of section order, start the main body with your strongest section.
